CLASSICAL SYMPHONY begins with a single dancer on stage. Shortly thereafter he is joined by more: seven pairs dance to the music of Prokoviev, the women, in short tutus, the men, in tunics. Marcello Angelini, Tulsa Ballet’s Artistic Director says about this piece: »I was at the world premiere…and I couldn’t stop screaming.
I had not seen a ballet that exciting in decades. It is terribly difficult, outrageously difficult… It is probably the most challenging dance a classical ballet company can perform, one that mixes the pure classical form of the Russian tradition with the speed, agility, performing quality and lightness of the American...The result is a work as exciting and fresh as springtime itself.«
DIVENIRE, which in Italian means 'becoming' is mostly inspired by the music of the composer Ludovico Einaudi. The choreography is a lyrical expression of both the energy and the calm contemplation that are necessary to rise above what we perceive with our senses.
REMEMBER OUR SONG is about submarine crew members who, facing imminent death, have dreams of their loved ones. The choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler, who was awarded a Tony Award for Best Choreography for the Broadway hit Hamilton, with REMEMBER OUR SONG choreographed for the first time a piece for a ballet company.
It is the Tulsa Ballet Company’s first time in Germany and the choreographies are having their German debuts here in Bonn.
